Life in the Nebulae

Nebulalarda Yaşam

How we define life determines how we see the world around us.

Some fifty or sixty years ago, when I was still in elementary school, we were taught to divide everything in our world into living and nonliving things. Non-living things were rocks, soil, and the like, while living things were beings like us, born to grow and live.

As science advanced, this distinction gradually began to blur, and the boundaries defining what was living and what was not began to lose their sharpness.

With the development of extraordinarily capable telescopes, able to observe the Big Bang and scan deep space, producing detailed maps of the Cosmos in mere minutes, this distinction extended into the Cosmos as well.

And we discovered that everything in the universe is alive. Everything is born, develops, and either dies or transforms. Just like us.

The great difference between us lies in time. Their timescales are vast beyond imagination, while ours are as fleeting as the lives of butterflies.

Yes, they live in the nebulae.

But don’t dismiss them as mere clouds. Depending on the matter they are made of, they have their own characteristics. Their temperatures differ, their colors differ, the directions in which they rotate or travel differ, and their connections with one another differ.

Some belong to the nebula of our own neighborhood, others to the neighborhood down the road.

Do you ever think about such things?

Bing Bang’i gözleyen, Derin Uzay’ı tarayıp dakikalar içinde tüm detaylarıyla Cosmos haritaları çıkarabilen inanılmaz yetenekli teleskoplar yapılınca bu farklılık Cosmos’ a da taşındı.
