Cosmic Explosion
Kozmik Patlama
In the Cosmos, even the numbers that describe the passage of time and the distances separating celestial bodies stretch the limits of our imagination.
Mathematicians work with dimensions so extraordinary that we cannot help but wonder how the human mathematical mind can comprehend such vast complexities, especially in an age when some still perceive even our three-dimensional world as though it were flat.
How do they determine the rotational speed of a galaxy billions of light-years away, identify the elements that make up its structure, and uncover its properties? How do they develop theories of multiple universes, or the multiverse? They tell us that if mathematics produces a particular result here, it must inevitably produce the same result in the farthest reaches of the universe. And once again, they turn to mathematics to demonstrate why.
If the light from the tremendous explosion that transforms a star into a supernova takes 80 million years to reach us, how can a mathematician identify an explosion whose first rays of light have not yet arrived?
Perhaps this painting of mine, which I have named Cosmic Explosion, depicts such an event. Perhaps an even more powerful explosion. Or perhaps simply one of the countless explosions occurring throughout the Cosmos.
You decide. Which one might it be?
